Where are the Bucks?
Question: If you have does in your hunting area, but no bucks during the rut, what type of call would you use?
Answer: If you have does in your area then at some point you'll have bucks too. Grunt tubes, can calls and rattling can all work, but they tend to work much better when you have a balanced age structure and sex ratio. Having bucks in all age classes and a balanced sex ratio creates competition for breeding so calling works better. If you have a skewed sex ratio (in favor of does) and mostly young bucks, then calling isn't nearly as effective. In these situations I tend to call much less than when the herd is properly managed. Good luck this season.
